The Brief
A new owner of Palace Gate Casino was adding slot machines and new branding and wanted a spectacular new room and a refresh of the card-playing areas without losing what made the building special.

The Key Decision
Rather than override the building's Arts and Craft heritage, I built the room around it, referencing William Morris, de Morgan and its period bones in the new corporate colours. The pivotal decision was hand-painting the client's logo onto the ceiling and specialist painting the mouldings, drawing the eye upward, with custom carpet designed to move with the card tables.

The Outcome
A game room that honoured the building's heritage, designed for play and still felt playful.

“New room, designed for play, in the new corporate colours with a unique celebration of the buildings architecture.”

“A listed heritage building, reworked to carry a new brand and a new use, without erasing what made it worth protecting in the first place.”
